We take pride in our local area
Forage Farm Shop & Kitchen is located on the fringes of Cowbridge, in the heart of the Vale of Glamorgan. This historic, picturesque market town is renowned for its boutique shops and colourful high street, as well as being a hub for the local farming community. Known for a long time as ‘the Bond Street of South Wales’, there is plenty to do and see in and around the town – see below a handful of recommended activities for those looking to explore the area beyond Forage.
St Quentin’s Castle
Located in the village of Llanblethian, a five minute drive from Forage, it is thought that St Quentin’s Castle was first occupied as a defensive structure in the year 1102, before further building work took place in 1312. Later used as a prison, children will enjoy seeing the ghoulish (pretend) skeleton languishing in the cells! Note that there is a sizeable lawn area to enjoy, backing onto woodland walkways.
Cowbridge Physic Garden
This is an absolute gem of a place, just off the high street in the grounds of the Old Hall. Neglected for many years prior to restoration by a loyal group of volunteers in 2006, the garden incorporates plants involved in the making of traditional medicines, culinary dishes, perfumes, cosmetics and dyestuffs. Whether you are interested in horticulture, medicine, or just looking for somewhere to relax and think, this is a wonderful place to spend a peaceful hour.
There are some lovely routes around Forage and Cowbridge. Check out the map to view public rights of way and bridal paths. For those looking for more of a hike you could embark on Route Number 7 – Cowbridge – Castle, Court and Wells. The longer red route is just under 8 miles.
